thx for writing Wendy (i think Nov is my new fav. month-i love reading your posts)! I have hope for our future - the dawn of justice is almost upon us.

Nevertheless, I find myself discouraged and angered by our society left wondering when ppl will wake up, when the privileged will share their power and live uncomfortably for the benefit of all humankind (and the dogs, birds, fish, turtles, trees, shrubs, rivers, and streams) (:

For me, what is most troubling about the stats that you kindly shared is that though our culture has shifted overtime, the poverty line, created in the 60s, has not adequately adjusted to keep up with current demands - thus excluding many ppl from assistance and providing those who can obtain assistance with only minimum amounts of resources, nothing of real significance. well, that and that mainstream American ideology still believes that our status in society is what we earn, not connected to birthing rights of race, class, and gender, and those who qualify for assistance are lazy and need to try harder. psh! looking forward to the dawn of justice! ~Kenzle K :)

Aside from the appalling statistic (90%--OMM!) it's sad to think that food stamps aren't serving the purpose they were designed for. During the recession in the mid 70s, my dad was out of work for a fairly long stretch and my mother swears that we ate better with food stamps than we ever did. The 4 food groups, as we adhered to then, were well covered apparently.

I'm glad food stamps are available too, I just wish they covered more...

Thoughtful thoughts there, WW. Thanks
