"A sense of place" is an excellent thing. But assuming outsiders will/should feel connected to your history without giving them connections to see why they should...can be kind of like assuming everyone wants to see your vacation slides. Maybe they're cool, but they're not necessarily something we all have in common. Growing up in little ionia was similar -- you'd think the whole world was like that. That's why i live in GR and Carol in Detroit -- we so prefer a world with color and diversity and opportunity.
